Half Day Pilgrimage Tour to Ancient Corinth
Corinth, the secret gem
A destination at a short distance from Athens. With superb nature, mythological aura and short paths full of images, sometimes with background of Ziria, Helmos and Oligyrto or the dreamy Kampos of Feneos, quality of meat and good tourist infrastructure, Corinthia is ideal choice suitable even for one day .
- Enjoy the view of the unique Corinth Canal
- Stroll around the Ancient Town of Corinth
- Visit the Ancient Port of Cehries
Leave Athens and drive South West until we reach the Corinth Canal which connects the Aegean Sea with the Ionian Sea (short stop). The main bridge offers a unique view of this monumental cutting that started as a thought in classical times and was finally completed in 1893. Although it is impassable for large ships, some smaller, tourist ships often cross the canal as it is a beautiful attraction.
Drive on and visit the ancient town of Corinth where Saint Paul lived, alongside Aquila and Priscilla, and preached for two years before leaving for Ephesus. We will stroll around the remains of the City, which include the Agora (market place) and Apollo’s Temple (6th century B.C.) which clearly show how rich and important Corinth was in Ancient Times. Then, we will visit the Ancient Port of Cehries, where Saint Paul disembarked to continue his preachings to Rome and Ephesus. This stop will conclude our tour. Return to Athens in time for lunch.
