Monastery Tatarna – Panagia Prousiotissa


Pilgrimage to the historic monastery of Tatarna. The monastery was burned in 1823 by Hoursit Pasha and the new Temple is Byzantine style by Otto type and is dedicated to the Birth of the Virgin. The monastery give much during the National Revolution as there were organized several revolutionary movements against the Turks. Many interesting relics are preserved until today as amulets, crosses, portable icons, vestments and more. Then pilgrimage to the Virgin Proussiotissa. In katholiko is the chapel where the miraculous image in a cave guarded. As foundation year of the Temple is written the 829 AD and founders was Dionysius and Timotheos. But there is still a likely scenario where as the Temple establishment period refers to 1100 – 1200 AD.
