Athens – Kefalonia – Saint Andrew Monastery
Departure in the morning for Kyllini with stop overs. Boarding the Ferry boat. Departure for Poros of Kefalonia. Arrival and immediate departure to the monastery of Saint Andrew with its wonderful frescoes and the church museum. Inside the monastery also the right foot of the Saint is being kept. Then we will go to Markopoulo to visit the church of the Virgin Mary where according to believers, on August 15th of every year snakes of the Virgin Mary appear. Driving through Peratata and Metaxata villages we will arrive at our hotel. Settle in our rooms. Dinner and overnight.
Northern Kefalonia
After breakfast, depart for northern Kefalonia. Following a beautiful route through green landscapes and picturesque villages, beautiful beaches in Myrtos, the village of Assos which is one of the most fascinating seaside locations of the island, we will reach the small town FISKARDO. The whole area has been declared preserved for the unique architecture of its houses. Time for lunch. From here it is possible to make an optional excursion to Ithaca return and start our visit to LIXOURI, an important town of the island with traditional houses, beautiful squares, quaint cafes and churches. Important are the two libraries Iakovatsio and Petritsio, with collections of rare books and vestments. We will also see the bronze statue of the satirical poet Andreas Laskaratos, and the church of the city’s patron Saint Charalambos. We’ll get back to our hotel late. Dinner and overnight.
Argostoli – Sami
After breakfast we depart for the Monastery of Agios Gerasimos, protector of the island where we will watch the Episcopal Divine Liturgy. Also we will see his cave. Then we will visit the sights of the city of Argostoli such as the Drapano Bridge, the lagoon LEVATHOS and the Korgialeneios library. Next stop is Drogarati where we will visit the cave with red stalactites and stalagmites.
Then the KARAVOMYLOS with strange geological phenomena. We continue to Sami, the largest port of Kefalonia. Sami was one of the most remarkable four cities of the antiquity. Ruins of castles are located high above the hills, and the remains of the ancient city under the pier. Later we will visit Agia Euphemia. We will continue to the remarkable Melissani cave lake where we can enjoy a boat ride on an underground lake with turquoise waters. Return to hotel, dinner and overnight.
Kefalonia – Athens
Breakfast, free time until our transfer to the port of Poros. Boarding the ferry and departure for Kyllini. Return late afternoon in Piraeus.
